*U.S. stocks end lower after jobs data, as S&P 500 suffers its longest losing streak since 2011: Stocks extend Thursday selloff*

*All three major U.S. stock benchmarks closed lower Friday, each booking another week of losses, as investors weighed April jobs data amid heightened stagflation fears. The S&P 500 fell for a fifth straight week, its longest losing streak since June 2011, according to Dow Jones Market Data.*

*Volatility continued to dominate financial markets, with stocks pushing lower as the latest U.S. jobs data cemented expectations the Federal Reserve will remain on its rate-hike path to combat stubbornly high inflation.*

*At the end of a week marked by fickle trading, quick reversals and heightened anxiety, the S&P 500 failed to stay in the green and fell to its lowest level in about a year. The gauge posted its fifth straight weekly drop -- the longest losing streak since June 2011. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 underperformed. Treasury 10-year yields remained above 3%, while the dollar rose. Gasoline futures in New York settled at a record high.*

Tech stocks were again an area of weakness for the market on Friday. Amazon fell 1.4%, while Microsoft and Nvidia dropped about 0.9%. Netflix and Crowdstrike fell 3.9% and 8.9%, respectively.

Speculative areas of the market such as biotech and solar energy were hit hard on Friday. Illumina dropped more than 14%, while Enphase Energy fell 8.4%.

On Thursday, the Dow industrials slumped 1,063.09 points, or 3.1%, its worst daily percentage drop since Oct. 28, 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The S&P 500 fell 3.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 5% for its worst daily percentage fall since June 11, 2020.

*For the week, the Dow and S&P 500 each slipped 0.2% while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1.5%. Both the Nasdaq and S&P 500 fell for a fifth straight week, while the Dow dropped for a sixth consecutive week, according to Dow Jones Market Data.*

*Volume on U.S. exchanges was 13.49 billion shares, compared with the 12.10 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.*

*What drove markets?*

Major U.S. stock benchmarks fell Friday to book weekly losses, after scoring big gains earlier in the week.
