US markets closed lower after Alphabet results disappointed the street and 10 year rallied back near 5.00%. Dow fell 0.32%, S&P fell 1.43% to close below 4200 for the first time since May and Nasdaq fell 2.43%, registering its worst day since February 21.
USD index traded higher near 106.56, 10 year jumped back towards 4.96% and cboe vix closed near 20.19.
Crude prices reversed from opening losses as worries over Middle East crisis overshadowed gloomy economic outlook and US inventory count. WTI moved above 85, Brent above 90.
Indian stocks traded lower over continued worries on the Middle East crisis and rising yields in the US. Sensex lost 523 points, Nifty closed below 19150 as the markets failed to hold onto opening gains. Banking names along with IT stocks took indices lower as selling pressure intensified on the penultimate day before October expiry.
Global equity sentiments and rising yields may once again put some pressure on markets at open and October series expiry may add to stock specific volatility for the day. As indicated yesterday, participants may start building some positions at every decline (only manageable exposure) for a probable year-end rally starting the November series. For investors, the current fall in stock prices provides an excellent opportunity to rebalance portfolios towards winners of the next bull run.

FT reports private equity (PE) is struggling to generate asset realizations to fund investor returns - see link and snipped below - and are still (unsuccessfully) seeking "2021 prices".
The reason they are seeking 2021 prices is they haven't yet taken their marks, wanting to pad performance and maintain the illusion of PE/alts generating high returns, low volatility, and "uncorrelated" performance (despite being high fee, levered-equity products).
But of course, all asset prices negatively correlate with tighter money, not just publicly-traded "liquid" assets. That's why they can't exit positions via IPO/trade sale in 2023 at 2021 prices, only at 2023 prices.
Investors and regulators should treat asset-shuffling efforts by PE such as continuation funds (rolling old assets into new funds), and margin loans etc to fund investor distributions, with extreme suspicion/skepticism, & clear evidence of PE overstating their NAVs/returns.
In my view, the whole PE/alts space is massively overallocated & due a meaningful clean out.

“The breaking of a longer-term consolidation (stage one accumulation or stage three distribution) attracts players from multiple timeframes (both shorter term traders and longer-term investors) who attempt to establish new positions near the beginning of a fresh trend. The breaks of consolidation levels from longer-term timeframes tend to lead to sharp and sustained movement due to competition from different timeframe participants for liquidity.
When trend begins to develop on a longer-term (monthly or weekly) timeframe, view it as a signal that there will be numerous trading opportunities in coming weeks, months and even years. Once underway, the fresh trend will create alignment trade opportunities after short-term pullbacks. Entries after these pullbacks typically offer a low-risk way to participate in established trends. The larger the volume on a break of longer consolidation levels, the greater the odds of a new trend being able to sustain the move. Fundamental developments that accompany a break higher or lower also increase the odds of continued directional movement as more participants are attracted to the action.”

US stocks ended mixed as 10 year jumped on red hot retail sales data. All the three majors started the day with deep cuts as strong retail sales added to the worries over rate hikes but stocks recovered lost ground towards the end of trade. Dow and S&P managed to close just near / above the flat line but Nasdaq saw a cut of 0.25%.
USD index traded lower near 106.20, 10 year rallied to two week highs near 4.83%, cboe vix closed up near 17.88.
Crude futures traded little changed as fears of demand destruction overshadowed the Middle East crisis, WTI traded near 86.60, Brent near 91.
Indian markets snapped three days of losses as investors turned their focus on ongoing results season. Sensex rose 262 points and Nifty topped 19800 on broad based buying across sectors.
Mixed global equity sentiments and progress of Q2 results season may dominate today's trade at Dalal Street. Worries over rising yields and crude prices may limit indices' rise but better Q2 show from Indian corporates (other than IT heavyweights) and strong local macros may help provide support to stocks at every pullback. Participants may continue to look at opportunities outside indices till global headwinds settle as individual stocks provide enough opportunities to stay in the game and outperform in the near term.
