Upma used to be served everyday in a hostel of 100 inmates. Out of 100 students 80 students complained to give different tiffin every day.

But, 20 students were happy to eat Upma everyday. 80 students wanted to have something other than Upma.

With great confusion to come to a conclusion, the warden arranged for voting. Which ever tiffin gets majority, that tiffin will be made.

20 students who wanted Upma voted promptly. Out of remaining 80 students voted as per their taste.

10: Idli Sambar

So, as per the voting pattern & Majority, Upma was continued.

Sources say Cabinet likely to consider speciality steel PLI scheme on Thursday Steel Ministry has identified 5 broad categories and 20 sub-categories for PLI scheme Eligibility criteria to include end to end manufacturing, JVs and MoUs, 20% value addition by 3rd parties.

Sources: Priority to be given to cos which front load investments and achieve annual incremental production Base year to be FY20 & incentive in the range of 4-15% starting FY23 till FY28.

*Bharti’s tariff hike limited to only 30% of post-paid subscribers; not a leading indicator to tariff hike in key pre-paid segment*

We spoke with the Bharti management to seek clarification on new post-paid plans; please find below key takeaways:

*a) Old corporate post-paid plans had customers offered discounted rate of INR 199/INR 249; this will now migrate to INR 299 plans*: Mgmt highlighted that prior to these new plans, they had customers at INR 199/INR 249 – these were usually discounted rate given to high volume corporate customers. With implementation of the new INR 299 plans, the INR 199/INR 249 customers will be migrated to INR 299 plan, effectively ending the discounts for those subscribers.

*b) Other corporate post-paid tariff points are unchanged:* Mgmt clarified that other corporate post-paid tariff points (apart from INR 199/INR 249) has been kept unchanged.

Hence, we estimate *30% of these corporate post-paid plan customers would have been in the INR 199/INR 249 plan, who would move to the higher plan of INR 299*, implying an effective hike of 30-40% for these subscribers, with other corporate post-paid subscribers being not affected.

Hence, *positive impact to be limited to only 0.6-0.9% of Bharti’s India wireless revenues and 1.5-2% of Bharti’s India wireless EBITDA*, as per our estimates.


Further, *we do not consider these as a leading indicator to the tariff hikes* since

*a) Bharti has largely kept the retail post-paid plans unchanged, with entry level plans intact*, and with a small tweak in the family plan from INR 749 to INR 999.

*b) Hike in prepaid tariffs, which contribute 85-90% of the revenue for Bharti and the industry, are likely to be driven by Jio*: Jio has been aggressive in its subscriber acquisition with the launch of the new Jiophone plans and the new smartphone and is unlikely to participate in a tariff hike unless there is certainty around its 500mn subscriber target. Bharti an VIL has indicated that it won’t initiate a tariff hike since it does not want to lose market share.

Stocks Slump as Virus Jitters Fuel Rush Into Bonds: Markets Wrap

Stocks slumped around the world as investors rushed into haven assets after the delta coronavirus variant cast a pall over the economic recovery, while tension between the U.S. and China escalated.

In a reversal of the reopening trade that has powered this year’s equity rally, cyclical companies bore the brunt of the rout on Monday. Commodity, financial and industrial shares led losses in the S&P 500, which fell the most in two months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had its biggest decline since October, while small caps extended a slide from March’s peak to nearly 10%. After recently plunging to pre-pandemic levels, the Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX, soared.

With the risk-off sentiment spreading across global markets, long-term Treasury rates spiraled to their lowest since February -- dragging the yield curve flatter. Ten-year yields tumbled as much 12 basis points to as little as 1.17%. The dollar rose alongside the yen and the Swiss franc. Despite the classic safety trade, gold retreated. Oil sank after OPEC+ agreed to boost supply into 2022. Meantime, Bitcoin’s slide pushed the world’s largest digital currency closer to $30,000.

The resurgence of Covid-19 is unsettling global investors, who are considering whether new lockdown restrictions will sap the economic rebound and reverse an equity rally that had driven stocks to a record. Matt Miskin, co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management, told Bloomberg Television that the move to “higher-quality assets” such as Treasuries is justified. Americans should avoid traveling to the U.K. because of a surge in that nation’s spread of Covid-19, U.S. government and health officials warned.

“Risk aversion is firmly in place as the Delta Covid variant spread is triggering a flight to safety,” wrote Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda. “Equities were ripe for a pullback given Wall Street was in agreement that this is ‘as good as it gets’ for peak earnings, economic growth, monetary stimulus. It is hard to hold risky assets over the short-term now.”

Geopolitical jitters also resurfaced on Monday after the U.S., the U.K. and their allies said the Chinese government has been the mastermind behind a series of malicious ransomware, data theft and cyber-espionage attacks against public and private entities -- including the sprawling Microsoft Exchange hack earlier this year.

Dow tumbles 700 points for its worst drop since October as investors fear a Covid resurgence

U.S. stocks fell aggressively Monday on concern a rebound in Covid cases would slow global economic growth. The selling picked up as the session went on, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average had its worst day since last October.

What experts are saying as stocks drop amid Delta variant concerns

The Dow dropped 725.81 points, or 2.1%, to 33,962.04 in a broad-based rout that sent all 30 members lower. At one point during the session, the Dow was down 946 points before recovering some ground into the close.

The S&P 500 fell 1.6% to 4,258.49. Energy, financials and industrials were the worst-performing sectors.

The tech-dominated Nasdaq Composite slid 1.1% to 14,274.98, posting its fifth-straight day of losses and worst losing streak since October.

The 10-year Treasury yield reached a five-month low of 1.17%, exacerbating fears about the slowing economy. The small-cap Russell 2000 dropped 1.5% and briefly dipped into correction territory on an intraday basis - down more than 10% from its March high.

“You have two concerns coming together ... concerns about market technicals and concerns about growth,” Allianz chief economic advisor Mohamed El-Erian told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Monday. “That’s what all the asset classes are telling you.”

Covid cases have rebounded in the U.S. this month, with the delta variant spreading among the unvaccinated. The U.S. is averaging nearly 26,000 new cases a day in the last seven days through Sunday, up from a seven-day average of around 11,000 cases a day a month ago, according to CDC data. Cases were already flaring up around the world because of the delta variant.

The Cboe Volatility Index surged as high as 25 amid the broad market sell-off, its highest level since May. The so-called fear gauge looks at prices of options on the S&P 500 to track the level of fear on Wall Street.
