Infosys To Acquire Digital Marketing Agency Oddity For $50 Million
Infosys Ltd. will acquire oddity -- a Germany-based digital marketing, experience, and commerce agency -- in an all-cash deal for $50 million (about Rs 380 crore), the company said on Tuesday.
As part of Infosys' digital experience and design offering, oddity will become part of Wongdoody and join its network of studios across Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, Providence, Houston, and London, and design hubs in five cities in India, Infosys said in a statement.
The company had acquired U.S.-based Wongdoody, which offers creative and marketing services, in a $75 million deal in 2018. "To consummate the transaction, Infosys will also acquire Germany-based Kristall 247 for €3,000 (about Rs 2.5 lakh)," the Indian IT firm said.
Infosys said the cost of acquisition for oddity is "up to €50 million, including earn-out, management incentives and bonuses."
With more than 300 digital experts, oddity is one of the largest independent digital agencies, the statement said.
With oddity's digital commerce and marketing knowledge as well as its metaverse-ready set-up, it is the perfect complement to Infosys' prowess in technological transformation," Infosys President Ravi Kumar S said.
oddity has a comprehensive service portfolio comprising digital-first brand management and communication, in-house production, including virtual and augmented reality, experience design and e-commerce services across Europe and China, the statement said. Acquisition of oddity is expected to close during the first quarter of FY23.

@AlliesFin Serve Stock Market's Post
Indian markets are holding up really well.
NSDL Data shows that FPIs have withdrawn 1.29 lakh crore in FY 21-22. This is the highest ever.
Despite this, Nifty 50 is down less than 14% from its peak.
The bulk of these outflows started in October 2021 and have been the worst in Jan and Feb 2022. Here are the numbers -
FPI Net Outflows -
October 2021 - 17033 crore
November 2021 - 5710 crore
December 2021 - 13150 crore
January 2022 - 35,975 crore
February 2022 - 37,689 crore
Two sectors have dominated these numbers with the greatest amount of absolute outflows. They are financial services (including banks) and IT. Both sectors have seen outflows in excess of Rs 40,000 crore each
While not comparable, one sector has seen disproportionate inflows from FPIs. This sector is Retail. The net inflows between October 2021 and Feb 2022 are just above Rs 15,000 crore.
Domestic mutual funds and domestic mutual fund investors have played a pivotal role in keeping the markets strong. They put in 98,624 crores between Oct 2021 and Feb 2022.
It looks like the FPIs will have to buy back at higher prices when they bring back these funds to India

Even so, Carey said it remains difficult to know how to position a portfolio, given uncertainties around how far Putin intends to take his attack on Ukraine. “I think there will be continued volatility like the swings we are seeing in the market, one day to the next.”
President Joe Biden delivered an optimistic State of the Union speech on Tuesday evening, saying that America is “stronger today than we were a year ago,” even as war rages on in Eastern Europe and concerns about inflation linger domestically.
In economic reports, the Fed’s Beige Book survey of economic activity showed modest expansion in the final weeks of last year on continued supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages, but also a pullback in leisure travel due to the omicron variant.
The private sector added 475,000 new jobs in February, payroll processor ADP said — after omicron faded, governments eased pandemic restrictions and the economy perked up. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a 400,000 increase.
Which companies were in focus?
• CVS Health Corp. , Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and Walmart Inc shares were in focus Wednesday after they said stores will participate in Biden’s test-to-treat COVID-19 program, at no costs. Shares rose 2.3%, 2.5% and 0.1%, respectively.
• Shares of Nordstrom rose Wednesday after the retailer said it earned $1.23 a share on revenue that rose more than 23% to $4.38 billion. Analysts were looking for earnings per share of $1 on revenue of $4.36 billion. Its stock gained almost 38%. Ford Motor Co.’s stock was in focus after it reported U.S. auto sales of 129,273 vehicles, down 20.9% from a year ago. It also said it would split its electric-vehicle unit from its legacy automobile manufacturing, a historic reorganization of the 118-year-old company. Shares advanced 8.4%.
• Shares of electric-vehicle maker Rivian Automotive fell 13.5% after it said it was raising prices to help the startup offset higher costs of production.
• Apple ended 2.1% higher after announcing a product launch for March 8, when it is expected to promote a low-cost version of its popular iPhone with 5G.
• Shares of banking giant Citigroup gained 1.7% as its CEO Jane Fraser outlined a three-phase plan to streamline operations and improve returns. The plan comes one year after Fraser became chief executive of the global institution. Profitability will fall as the bank pursues a strategy shift that will raise expenses in the near term.
• Swedish telecoms giant Ericsson fell more than 9% as it juggles an unpopular acquisition and the fallout from a 2019 investigation which found compliance breaches in the company’s operations in Iraq.
Volume on U.S. exchanges was 13.1 billion shares, compared with a 12.4 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.
Sell-side analysts in the U.S. are getting more nervous about earnings forecasts, with profit revisions turning most negative since May 2020. Downgrades are now outweighing upgrades as the war in Ukraine, rising oil prices and policy tightening may weigh on economic growth.
In Asia, the Shanghai Composite SHCOMP ended 0.1% lower, while the Hang Seng Index HSI closed down 1.8% in Hong Kong and Japan’s Nikkei 225 NIK declined 1.7%.

Powell’s testimony “did clarify his and the Fed’s approach to withdrawing stimulus in 2022 amid increased uncertainty from the Russia-Ukraine conflict,”. Powell sees the maximum employment part of his mandate as largely fulfilled.
“With inflation at a multidecade high, the Fed is anxious to get off of a crisis footing,” while also looking to “cool demand enough to get inflation under control, but not choke off the recovery.”
Comments:
# “It is worth pointing out the great stress he placed, again, on being data-driven and nimble. Whereas a few weeks ago, that might have meant a very dynamic approach to inflation, it is quite likely this now means keeping a close eye on the economic growth numbers, said Jeanette Garretty, managing director at Robertson Stephens Wealth Management.
# “In light of the Chair’s testimony, and events so far this week, we retain our monetary policy outlook, which anticipates five 25bp hikes to the policy rate in 2022, starting in March. We continue to expect a plan for (passive) balance-sheet normalization to be announced in May, and to be implemented in June,” said Barclays economists, led by Michael Gapen.
However, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said the central bank needs to adopt a more aggressive monetary policy stance to combat surging pricing pressures. Bullard, a voting member of the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee this year, has consistently called for an aggressive approach to monetary tightening.
While his Chicago counterpart Charles Evans said monetary policy is currently “wrong-footed” and needs to be upwardly adjusted toward neutrality.
Comments from monetary policy makers come as investors also watched headlines from the seventh day of conflict in Ukraine that has seen Russian forces step up shelling of civilian areas.
Russia's week-old invasion has yet to achieve its aim of overthrowing Ukraine's government. Ukrainians said they were battling on in the port of Kherson, the first sizeable city Russia claimed to have seized, while air strikes and bombardment caused further devastation in other cities.
Russia’s invasion was denounced by the United Nations General Assembly, underscoring Moscow’s increasing isolation on the global stage, as U.S. authorities weighed restrictions on imports. The Russian military’s advance continued, while Ukraine said it will take part in a second round of talks with Moscow on Thursday. The U.S. will postpone a Minuteman-III intercontinental ballistic missile test planned for this week to show restraint after President Vladimir Putin raised Russia’s nuclear alert level over the weekend, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
Russian forces penetrated Kherson and have surrounded Mariupol, two key cities in the southern part of the country.
Moscow continued to pound Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, on Wednesday, with both sides indicating they were ready to resume talks to end the fighting. The U.N. General Assembly voted on Wednesday to condemn Russia’s Ukraine invasion, while calling for an immediate end to the clashes.
Surging energy prices also were in focus, with U.S. crude oil prices +7.73% settling at $110.60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest level in about 11 years, according to FactSet data.
The U.S. and other countries in the International Energy Agency agreed on Tuesday to release 60 million barrels of oil from their emergency reserves, to help with any supply shortfall caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Also, OPEC+, made up of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, including Russia, offered no surprises at its monthly meeting, quickly agreeing to boost production in April by another 400,000 barrels a day.
“Weather is in our favor over the next few weeks,” said John Carey, director of equity income at Amundi US, in a phone interview, of higher energy costs. “It’s still cold, but at a certain point over the next few weeks, the weather will warm up, so it may not be such an acute problem than it would have been a month ago.”

Dow ends 600 points higher as Powell affirms March rate liftoff, vows to stay nimble as Ukraine crisis unfolds. He said the U.S. economy is expanding with enough force to withstand rate hikes while pledging to be judicious in removing stimulus. Powell's comments, in testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, helped calm investors after Russia's invasion of Ukraine sent markets into a tailspin.
U.S. stock indexes finished sharply higher Wednesday, with gains gathering steam after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell outlined plans to begin dialing back the central bank’s easy-money stance to fight inflation, while playing down the prospect of a larger-than-usual increase of benchmark rates in March.
Wall Street also monitored headlines indicating Ukraine and Russia could be headed for new negotiations, even as the conflict simmered.
More than 90% of the companies in the S&P 500 advanced, with financial, material and energy shares leading the charge. Two-year Treasury yields surpassed 1.5%, up from as little as 1.26% on Tuesday. Global commodity markets surged to multiyear highs after traders backed away from Russia, sparking anxiety that supply will fall short in everything from wheat to natural gas. Oil topped $110 a barrel, near eight-year highs after Western sanctions disrupted transport of commodities exported by Russia. That’s despite the the International Energy Agency saying Tuesday it will release 60 million barrels of oil from global reserves, in a bid to ease the current supply constraint.
On Tuesday, the Dow fell nearly 600 points, or 1.8%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each slid 1.6%.
What drove the market?
Stocks erased sharp losses from a day earlier after Fed Chairman Powell testified that it would be appropriate for the central bank to raise its benchmark interest rate, currently in a range between 0% and 0.25%, at its meeting in two weeks. Powell said he supported a 25 basis point increase, rather than a larger 50 basis point increase, and would propose such a move when the Fed convenes its two-day meeting mid March.
Fed-fund futures were pricing in a near-zero chance that the Fed would raise interest rates by a half-point in March, a dramatic shift from recent weeks. The 10-year Treasury rate shot higher to 1.862%, marking its biggest daily gain in two years, with the advance for stocks led primarily by the S&P 500’s energy +2.22% and financials +2.55% sectors.
